STAR Service to Charity
STARS (Syncope Trust & Reflex Anoxic Seizures), is a registered charity
which provides support and information to families and individuals affected
by Syncopes and Reflex Anoxic Seizures. A syncope is the result of the
temporary cutting off of the supply of oxygenated blood to the brain and
Reflex Anoxic Seizure (RAS) describes the convulsion which accompanies a particular
type of syncope which causes the heart to stop beating for a short time.
RAS is most common in young children and attacks can be as frequent as
several times per day. Any unexpected pain or fright can trigger an attack.
Trudie Lobban, the chief executive of STARS, founded the support group
in 1993 after her daughter was diagnosed with RAS. She has run the support
group almost single handedly since then and recently won the UK Charity
Director of the year award for her outstanding commitment.
familiar is working with Trudie and her team to develop a web based system
to manage the details of sufferers and medical professionals associated
with this condition.
"The
help from familiar will be invaluable, it will not only save a huge
amount of time but more importantly will offer a better, quicker, more
efficient service to those contacting STARS"
- Trudie Lobban, Chief Executive, STARS.
